She Believed
As women, when we read the Bible, many of the blessings and promises are written using pronouns like “he” or “his.” While we know these promises belong to all of God’s children—both men and women—it is always refreshing when we come across a verse of blessing or encouragement that speaks specifically to women.
Luke 1:45 – “And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfilment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.” (ESV)
As women, when we read the Bible, many of the blessings and promises are written using pronouns like “he” or “his.” While we know these promises belong to all of God’s children—both men and women—it is always refreshing when we come across a verse of blessing or encouragement that speaks specifically to women.
Luke 1:45 is one of those beautiful verses.
This moment occurs when Mary, the mother of Jesus, visits her relative Elizabeth. Mary had just encountered the angel Gabriel, who told her she would give birth to the Saviour. Elizabeth herself was pregnant with John the Baptist after years of barrenness.
When Mary greeted her, the baby in Elizabeth’s womb leapt for joy. Filled with the Holy Spirit, Elizabeth declared these powerful words:
“And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”
For many years, I have carried this verse and hidden it in my heart through all the changing scenes of life.
Whenever life becomes difficult, I return to this scripture. I proclaim it. I declare it. I hold on to it.
Yes, this verse was originally spoken about Mary and the miraculous birth of Jesus. But as women who believe in God, we can also hold onto this truth in our own lives. It reminds us that every promise God speaks is as good as done when we believe Him.
There will be moments when circumstances seem to contradict what God has said. There will be seasons when the promise feels distant and the waiting feels long. But Luke 1:45 reminds us that faith positions us for fulfillment.
For a long time, I have felt the Lord placing a calling on my heart to create a space for women—a place that encourages, uplifts, and reminds us that God’s promises are still true today.
That is the heart behind She Believed.
A space where women are reminded that the promises of the Lord are Yes and Amen for those who believe.
As this becomes our maiden blog post, my prayer is that this platform will encourage you to walk with us on this journey. I do not know how big or small this community will become, but I believe God will use it to strengthen the faith of women everywhere.
Maybe God has spoken something over your life.
Perhaps there was a prophecy concerning your future, your children, your marriage, or your career. Yet right now, your situation may look nothing like what was promised.
If that is you, I want to encourage you today:
Believe.
Hold onto the word that God has spoken.
Because just like Mary, there will be a fulfillment of what was spoken to you from the Lord.
And truly,
Blessed is she who believed.
