Scripture:
“Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations… He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead since he was about a hundred years old, and that Sarah’s womb was also dead.” – Romans 4:18–19
Devotional Thoughts
Given their advanced age, Abraham and Sarah needed a supernatural level of faith to believe God’s promise.
I often wonder if the reason God waited until Abraham and Sarah were old before giving them Isaac was because He wanted to show that He alone can bring life out of dead situations.
What if Abraham and Sarah had received Isaac in their younger years? Would they have developed the same depth of faith and dependence on God? Perhaps it would have been easier to attribute Isaac’s birth to their own strength and natural ability rather than to the miraculous power of God.
God intended to make Abraham the father of many nations through Israel—the nation through whom He would ultimately bring redemption to the world through Jesus Christ. For a family that would become the lineage of the Messiah, a supernatural level of faith and hope was required.
God wanted Abraham and Sarah to know Him deeply and trust Him completely. He wanted them to experience firsthand that nothing is impossible for Him—not even enabling a ninety-year-old woman, long past childbearing age, to conceive and give birth. When Isaac finally arrived, there could be no doubt that it was the Lord who had done it.
Like Abraham and Sarah, God desires to create something extraordinary through your life so that there will be no doubt that it was His work. The place He wants to take you, the doors He wants to open, and the purpose He wants to fulfill through you are all designed to bring glory to His name.
Will the journey be easy? No.
It certainly wasn’t easy for Abraham and Sarah. Imagine receiving a promise from God that you would have a son, only to wait decades for its fulfillment. Imagine growing older, passing the age when such a promise seemed possible. The frustration, confusion, disappointment, and questions must have been overwhelming.
Their waiting season even led Sarah to take matters into her own hands by giving Hagar to Abraham. Yet despite their mistakes and moments of doubt, God remained faithful to His promise.
Sometimes, while waiting on the Lord, we too may make mistakes, lose perspective, or attempt to create our own solutions. But God’s faithfulness is greater than our failures. He is able to redeem our missteps and still accomplish His purposes.
If He did it for Sarah, He can do it for you.
Perhaps you are waiting on the Lord for an answer to a prayer. Maybe you are believing for healing, restoration, provision, direction, or a breakthrough that seems impossible.
Hold on.
Do not lose faith.
The God who brought life to Sarah’s barren womb is the same God who is working in your situation today. What seems impossible to you is not impossible for Him.
Keep trusting. Keep believing. Keep hoping.
His timing may not be your timing, but His promises never fail.

Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for loving me and choosing me to be part of Abraham’s family through the sacrifice of Your precious Son, Jesus Christ.
Thank You for reminding me today that You are the God of the impossible. Increase my faith and help me to trust You even when I cannot see what You are doing.
Lord, I confess that waiting can be difficult. At times it can feel overwhelming, discouraging, and even painful. Yet I trust that You are working all things together for my good and for Your glory.
Help me not to grow weary in the waiting. Strengthen my heart when doubt tries to creep in. Teach me to rely on Your promises rather than my circumstances.
I believe that You are preparing me for greater things and that when the answer comes, there will be no doubt that it was Your hand at work.
Thank You for Your faithfulness. Thank You that what You promise, You will surely bring to pass.
